WEDDING DRESS TRAINS

How have you been my lovely people! Good? Amazing?
My weekend was great, It’s was friend’s wedding! Its was a beautiful wedding I must say!

I have been doing my research about wedding gown and now I can talk a little bit about the trains.
Trends have come and gone, if you remember Princess Diana’s gown. So what does one need to know?
According to the wedding encyclopedia, a wedding dress train is the portion of the gown’s skirt that extends behind the dress, trailing along the ground behind the wearer. (Wedding Encyclopedia)
When shopping for my gown I came across these simple explanations that helped me remember which train is which.

1. COURT TRAIN
To remember this type of train, think of a court room. The aisles are very short.

2. CATHEDRAL TRAIN
Again, think of a cathedral building (All saints cathedral if you live in Nairobi). The aisle is very long and in my opinion perfect for the bridal procession.

3. CHAPEL TRAIN
A chapel is smaller than a cathedral meaning the chapel train is shorter than the cathedral train.

4. BLUSH SWEEP TRAIN
Ok, this one is not the size of a brush! I remember it by how it remains part of the dress; it appears to sort of brush the bride’s shoes.

5. WATTEAU TRAIN
This one is the easiest to remember. Think Super Hero! Superman for example. This train attaches from the shoulders.

BI Harusi Tip:
The length of your train is dependent on the theme of your wedding. To ensure that it does not come in the way of enjoying yourself, make sure the height of your dress is taken with the shoes you intend to wear, so you can try it out.

I hope these tips will help you pick the prefect train for your perfect day. Do you have any more tips? I would love to hear from you.

Importance of Wedding Hair and Make up Trial.

All a bride wants for her big day is to look and feel her best.

The bridal hair and makeup trial is an important appointment a bride should make when planning her wedding.

The trial gives the bride and the makeup artist to get familiar with each other prior to the wedding day. From this meeting, the make up artist will be able to know the brides personality and also able to know what will work and what will not work for her in that day.
_DSC0845
This will help the bride see the level of professionalism of the make up artist and gauge their work in order to make the decision of hiring them or not.

The make up artist will also be able to know what products to use on the bride on the big day for example, know what shade of foundation goes well with your skin, what hairstyle you would like and many more.
For the hair trial, it is advisable to bring with you any/all accessories you intend to have on your big day.
Mercy and Sam-4686
This will be used to give you a better picture of how you will look like on your big day.
If you have not settled for a specific look, you can bring with you pictures of the styles that you have liked and would love to try out. This will give you a sense of direction towards what look you are going for.

Remember to be very clear about things you absolutely DO not want, and things you MUST have… the Make up artist will not know unless you tell them.

Having all these cleared out you will love the results as it is just as you wanted.

wedding dress ideas for pregnant brides

For most brides, finding the perfect wedding dress is usually the most stressful bit of the process. This is because they find so many to choose from and all they want is to look their best for their big day.
For expectant brides, it becomes overwhelming as her body keeps changing by the day and she should be able to find that one dress that will flatter her changing body, be comfortable in it and at the same time look their best on her big day.

The main thing to bear in mind is starting with the most important question “how far along you will be on the day of your wedding. This will help you choose the dress design as well as what shoes to wear.
Before deciding on the wedding dress you have to ask yourself if you would like to show off your baby bump or hide it.

Any style that a woman wants is going to be the best choice for her. It is vitally important that she be happy with how she looks with her dress on the big day. The maternity wedding dress needs to have “visually a naturally flow” to look at its best. Therefore avoid corsets or any other similar constricting wedding dress styles. Most pregnant brides will need a supporting bra. For the best comfort on your wedding day I suggest you sew it into your wedding dress. This will make you more comfortable throughout the day.

As a pregnant bride you don’t only carry more weight on your feet, but you might be as well suffer of swollen ankles. So, best to avoid wedding shoes with high heels and tight fitting that will cut into your feet therefore, do not choose fashion over comfort in your wedding shoes .

Also, remember to have fun with this as well! For instance, you can choose to have a creative way to celebrate both your pregnancy and your wedding is to reveal the sex of the baby, through the color inside the wedding cake. Cutting the cake reveals either pink or blue filling, providing an element of surprise for guests along with even more excitement!

Picture Perfect:: Wedding Day Makeup

Hey there!

Looking angelic and divine is every bride’s dream.

Your makeup can help you achieve this. If you are a makeup lover or enthusiast like I am, this is probably not going to be easy as you may already have a wedding look in mind.

Your wedding day makeup will need to stay put the whole day, amid hugs and kisses, dancing and laughter!

Here are my top lessons.

1. Choose  a long wear foundation

You do not want to have patches on your face on your wedding day caused by your making wearing off.

A long wear foundation takes your mind off how you look as your foundation has covered your bases.

If you have oily skin try using a matte finish foundation. If you have combination skin, a cream to powder foundation will do the trick.

image

2. Settle on a Wedding Day Makeup look.

I suggest that you surf the Internet for different makeup looks and get inspired by the different ways to be creative with eye shadows and lipsticks to achieve your dream wedding day look. You could save pictures of what you like on your phone to show your makeup artist when you settle for a makeup trial.

3. Be Daring

Believe or not, many brides will confess that they normally never wear any makeup in their day to day lives but they want to look exceptional on their wedding day.

image

My advise, be daring. Pretty is what you are , beauty is what you choose to do with it. Do not be scared to shine. Stay true to your self  and have fun.

4. Meet with your makeup artist for a trial.

To ensure that your wedding day makeup is flawless, find a professional who can help you achieve your dream wedding look. Work with your makeup artist to decide what look will best accentuate your features and hide your flawsome areas and remain in line with your wedding theme.

5. S.M.I.LE

This sets the mood for your wedding day.

A smile is the best accessory you can wear.

Do not be modest with it.

If you have any questions about where to start with your wedding day makeup, feel free to email me your questions.

I hope you enjoyed this article.

The Perfect Theme Colour

” What is your theme colour?”

This has got to be most asked questions that newly engaged brides get asked. Ask me I know!

IMG_0150So with the trends ever changing, how do you ensure that you pick the perfect theme colour for your perfect wedding?

According to David Tutera ,celebrity wedding planner and Host of My Fair Wedding, and the one man I would love to break bread with,  says that colour is an extension of your personality as a bride and the hues you chose are bound to affect you.

The colours that you choose as your theme colours will basically appear everywhere on your big day. these colours will be in your invitations, in your wedding day decor, in your bouquets, your bridesmaids dresses-Everywhere!

IMG_0798

So how does one choose the perfect colours for their wedding?

You are most likely to select your favourite colours. This is beacause these colours probably mean something to you.

I had pink, yellow and tangerine for my wedding.

IMG_0356

I love pink and everyone who knows me can attest to this. Secondly I chose yellow, because being in love makes you feel like you are walking on sunshine. I added the tangerine because I was looking for something to represent the calmness, so I chose a very soft shade.

In other instances, you may pick a colour as your wedding theme colour because of what the colour represents. for some Red means passion, Purple means royalty, green represents their connection with nature to mention but a few.

IMG_0154My tip is to not be too predictable. Think out of the box and see how best your personality can shine through your wedding theme colours.

Your wedding day is the one day you can have things your way, so as much as options and opinions are good, stay true to your self and paint the best picture that represents your happily ever after.

How to choose your bridesmaids

Hey there!

Choosing your bridesmaids looks like an easy task. Right? That is what I thought at first.

bridesmaids1

Between the suggestions from your aunt on who should be on the lineup, the self-appointments from friends who know they are in the line up,

to your fiancees ideas on who should be on your side, a bride can go through a lot of  headache trying to put a list together.

When it comes to choosing your bridal party, are there guidelines that can make it easy for brides?

Let’s explore our options.

First and foremost, it is important to write your wishlist of your bridal party. this helps you narrow down based on availability for planning meetings and on the wedding day.

Bridesmaids-2

As you write your list be sure to get your partners views and inputs.

After coming up with your list, decide on their roles. The most important has to be who your maid on honor is. A lot of thought should go in choosing this one. Your maid of honor should be the one person who can steer you the right way by telling you the truth even when you do not want to hear it.

Next you need to ask. I suggest that by this time you have worked out your expectations of your wedding day. it is also important to calculate how much it will cost your bridesmaids to be on your bridal party.

This helps those who feel like it will dent their budgets to drop out before invitations are sent out.

Plan a meeting with your bridal party to share your vision for your wedding day so that they are on your side.bridesmaids

Have fun shopping online for designs with your girls listening to them and reminding them of your theme and vision.

If you have many friends like I do, remember you cannot make everyone happy you could compensate by giving them supporting roles so that they are also involved in seeing you married.

Are you in the process of planning a wedding? How did you choose your bridal party? I would love to hear from you.

Joy

What to wear to a bridal shower

Hey Darlings,

Before I got married, I wasn’t a regular at bridal showers.

Now that I am married, either I tend to notice more bridal showers or I am simply invited to many showers or planning more.

So what is the proper way to dress up for bridal showers?

My top tips are:-

1. Steer clear of white, beige and grey- for obvious purposes.

2. Find out the theme of the bridal shower before hand. This will help you dress appropriately.

3. Comfort is key.

I have shopped on Pintrest for some of my favorites hope you like what I put together.

Wedding Dress Necklines 101

Hey Beautiful!
I hope you are enjoying the new month and the blog so far, I would love to hear what you think. Leave a comment?
Shopping for a wedding dress appears so easy on TV shows! You walk in a bridal consultant chats you up ask you what your budget is, what dress you want, what neckline looks good on you and voila! You get your dress!
I will show you how to get to bridal consultant level and prepare you for your next bridal appointment.
1. Bateau Neckline.
I always wondered where my knowledge in French would come in handy; Bateau means boat. So think of this neckline taking the shape of a boat.

image
This neckline follows the curve of the collarbone to the very tip of the shoulders.

2. Sweetheart Neckline

This has got to be the most loved neckline style. I wore it for my wedding on not one but two gowns!
It is easy to spot. Just think of the top half of a heart.

image
3. One Shoulder Neckline
As the name suggests, the strap comes across only one shoulder.

image
4. V-Neck Neckline.
In this style, the neckline usually dips down taking the shape of the letter V

image
5. Plunging Neckline
This is for the daring and extremely sensual! It is usually a very very deep V-Neck.

image
6. Halter Neckline
The halter neckline usually has straps that wrap around the back of the neck. They could be fixed or easily tied together in a bow.

image

BI Harusi Tip:

When choosing a neckline it is important to bear in mind that your comfort is key. You do not want to be the bride who keeps pulling up your dress and constantly adjusting your bust area.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know by leaving a comment.

Weddings Gown Styles

Hey there lovely!

I am so excited! This is my very first post on this blog!

Welcome once again to BI Harusi!

Whether engaged or not, planning a wedding or just shopping, it really does not hurt to know a little bit about wedding gowns.

Today we will learn about the different silhouettes or designs that exist.

Depending on your body shape and taste in style, there is a gown for every one!

If you are a fan on TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress, you have definitely seen how Kleinfield Fashion Director Randy knows every single thing about the dresses!

Not to worry, once you finish reading this article, you will have passed the first class.
I will divide these lessons because it is very long and I don’t want to bore you on day one.

I will define the silhouette; advise for which body type it is most appropriate for and the show you my favourite dresses for each.
A-LINE
This is a gown that is fitted at the bodice and gently flares wider toward the bottom resembling the letter A.

image
It is flattering on most body types and is perfect for disguising bottom heavy figures.
It comes is various variations such as the fitted A-Line that has s lightly dropped down waist.
EMPIRE
The waist line of this dress is higher than the natural waist. It starts right below the bust.

Empire style dress

If you have a petite figure or are have a small bust this silhouette is best for you. If you are bottom heavy as well, this dress hides it well.
BALL GOWN
This is my personal favourite. Just like the A-Line, it is fitting on top however it has a very full skirt-More like the Cinderella dress.

image

This dress is perfect as it hides everything and people can focus on your face-just kidding but in all honesty, it gives the impression on a tiny waist!

SHEATH
I rarely see brides here in Kenya follow this trend. A sheath silhouette is a figure hugging dress that flows all the way down and has a defined waist that you can choose to accessorize with a belt or a waistband.

image

The bottom part can slightly flare on not depending on the brides preferences. If you have a well toned body, this would be a perfect dress, for obvious reasons.

TRUMPET
This silhouette is often mistaken to the mermaid silhouette. The difference is that it flares right in the middle of your hips unlike the mermaid that flares from the knees going down.

image

This dress is perfect for accentuating curves.

MERMAID
This is probable the second most done in dress by brides locally!

image

It fits closely from the bust areas to the knees then flares out all the way down. I think it looks perfect on most body shapes but experts say it is better for brides with hour glass body shapes
My tip to brides to be is to try out the different silhouettes before settling on a gown simply because you love how it looks or a particular detail on it.
You don’t necessarily have to follow the rules on the silhouettes but always be on the look for something that works for you so that you do not set yourself up to fail.

I hope this has been useful to you. If you have any questions or queries, simply leave a comment or send me an email, call or WhatsApp.

Love,

Joy
